APHA standard methods is used commonly for nitrate-N analysis in treated water. Recently, NO3-N measurements showed unreliable results, against the investigators expectations, that NO3-N in an MBR system treating about 1000 m3/d were exceeding the common 10 mg N/L! Doubts about the analytical method and results obtained. The disinfected sample has more NO3-N compared with chlorine-disinfected samples? Any reasons behind probable interference solutes [residual chlorine, sulphate ...ect? Any experience and feedback, most welcome! Note: Total N= 15 mg/L? The MBR system is still in the start-up phase, inlet total-N around 120-150 mg/L; BOD: 935-850; Total-P: 20-25 and TSS: 1200-1300 [mg/L].
