In my research , iam using dispersant in mortar to prevent gas entrapment and to enhance fibers with cement slurries. Whether dispersant should be replaced by cement in mortar or it should be a additive?
You use the dispersant as a partial replacement for the cement and then use it as an additive while keeping the same water / cement ratio and the same quantity of the dispersant. Once the two mixtures are made, you compare the results of the mixtures in the fresh and hardened states and then concluded mbine and choose the best parameter (ie additive or replacement of the cement) according to the best behavior.
I think dispersant is a chemical additive not replacement of cement. It is just like a superplasticizer and mix proportion should be done according to IS: 10262.
Replacement of cement should only be done with those materials which has cementing properties.
