Ideology is a term that grew up in the womb of philosophy, but it was nurtured by the criticism of creativity and acceptance. There is no innocent reading, and it is impossible to find an innocent writing to be able to understand the text away from ideology in all its religious, political, social and economic forms.

So, in criticism a distinction between ideology (of the write or novelist) and worldview of people he/she writes about should be made.

Dear Carlson, yes readers must read with a critical eye and come to their own conclusion. And yes, a writer who may oppose the spin of another writer might attempt to discredit the other writer's interpretation by describing it as biased and revisionist, as if only his or her own account is real and factual. The difference between two writers, goes back to the difference in their ideology. The issue here, however relates to the question: To what extent does a writer represent (in her/his writing) the worldviews of people, not her/his ideology. For example, Naguib Mahfouz, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, was able to depict worldviews of Egyptians (in his novels) showing changes in these worldviews in different epochs of Egyptian modern history. He did not impose his own ideas (or ideology) on people's beliefs and worldviews. Some writers, unfortunately, did impose their ideologies.
