For my research related to coastal Odisha, I am interested in old topographic maps showing the coastal boundary of Odisha, preferably before 1975. Does anyone know about it?
Although I cannot provide specific links to historical maps of the coast of Odisha, I would like to draw your attention to two resources that were very helpful when researching the Suez Canal and Red Sea during the second half of the nineteenth century.
When looking for historical maps - Old Maps Online – is a wonderful collection. It can be accessed through https://www.oldmapsonline.org/about/. However, most of the maps are not very detailed.
When looking for historical coastal maps – Royal Museums Greenwich – has a larger collection of maps (some are accessible online). In a quick search, the following was found:
Bay of Bengal Orissa coast Bimlipatam to Gopalpur surveyed...under the direction of Commander RF Hoskyn RN in charge of the Marine Survey of India 1890, Scale: circa 1:300,000. Coastal chart with three inset plans. Engraved by Davies & Compy. Insets: 1. Bimlipatam anchorage 1:18,156; 2. Baruva anchorage 1:18,386; 3. Fundi River anchorage 1:10,375.
