Can someone point me to images showing, supposedly, Tepehuanes and Spanish jinetes in a battle scene painted on the walls of the Cueva de los Monos, located in the state of Durango, Mexico? Much obliged for any leads!
Though at this point I'm specifically looking for images from the Durango cave, I'd be more than interested in also seeing the Cuban rock art. Can you perhaps give me some leads on publications/photos of the latter? Many thanks, Michael
I found this site the other day and then saved it. Hopefully you should be able to find the photos you need there. If it doesn't work let me know. The search Mexico brought up images but your other key words did not. However it may be in there and is just not titled with the correct details. If you know what you are looking for maybe you will recognize it. I, for one, would have to google image search. Maybe by using the filter for the correct license you can find it publicly. Without a filter and using google images, I searched "tepehuanes Cueva de los Monos art painting" and possible relevant pictures appeared but once again, you may know better than I.
Chloe, thanks for the suggestions. Can't say I've been having much luck so far, and I've tried all kinds of search term combinations. The closest that I got so far to any images was an old INAH page on the cave, but the photos of the paintings that once were posted to the page have been either deleted or just simply don't want to show up on my computer for obscure technical reasons. Oh well....
It just means it is time to take a trip and either take your own pictures or pick up a postcard from a commissioned photographer of the area (is there a visitor's center?). Educational vacations are the best, they just call it study abroad (haha).
Chloe, these days I don't think the cave is even accessible to the public, and there seem to have been issues with vandals a few years back. Who knows what remains of the images today. Without any further information, it would be an expensive and awfully doubtful outing....
