I am currently writing up an undergraduate dissertation on the impact of mobile & branchless banking on MFIs in Mexico.
Using MIXMarket, I have prepared a dataset but there is no information provided on which firms offer mobile/branchless services or for how long they have done so.
Is anyone aware of a site I could find such information, or of any relevant Mexican authorities/development institutions/academics that I could contact? Thanks.
in SA any company offering financial services must be registered as such. if this is also the case in mexico, it should be helpful.
all banks should be registered with the reserve bank - even branchless etc banks would need capital and this would be provided by the reserve bank
i would think that a simple google search - bank mexico - would list all banks operating in mexico, and from this it should be easy to determine which offers said services
I think you could that from the world bank data or the data base center in Mexico
You could look for some information on the websites of "Banco de México" and "Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones". Maybe you could also find relevant information in the website of AMIPCI.
