Read very old textbooks and medical journals, especially for descriptions of hallucinations.
I find little of any use in modern literature except for Schiz Bull Personal Accounts. Patient websites on the Internet are more helpful than the medical literature.
From personal experience with family members, some churches take advantage of mentally ill patients (and schizophrenics are especially easy to manipulate using religion). So I would maybe use that as a starting point. Just remember not all churches do this and that I'm speaking from personal experience. Obviously, you couldn't (legally) do any serious studies, but I think if this is something you are interested in, going and interacting with schizophrenics in pathological environments that manipulate them would give you a real-life idea of the dynamic between schizophrenics and the social settings that take advantage of and even enforce their sickness. I don't know how much this has already been looked into, but I bet you could end up with a pretty great and original research topic.
