I'm looking for data around Third Sector risks for my Strategic Leadership dissertation. During my Insurance and Risk Management PGCert at Birmingham City University and Strategic Leadership MSc studies at Northumbria University I have kept being frustrated in my search for data around the greatest risks facing UK charities. I can find data around perceived threats, but not empirical data about the risks that cause the most frequent or most substantial financial losses. Now that I’m preparing for my dissertation, I’d love to take this opportunity to address this and am thinking of exploring a question like “to what extent is UK charity risk transfer uptake appropriate to the risks they face?” My first thought was to approach insurers to ask for data around claims, but then I realised that this would only measure existing insured losses, and not give insight into uninsured losses, which is a very important part of the picture. I've sent a request to the Charity Commission, asking if they have data around the number of insolvencies and the reason for these insolvencies. It will take up to two weeks to hear back from them and I’m not confident that they will hold the data around reasons that I am requesting. Do you know of somewhere I could obtain relevant data? Or perhaps have an idea for a different investigation that might be useful, around Risk and the Third Sector? The scope for the dissertation is very wide, so any idea that would be useful would be welcome.
