The largest deposits of lithium globally are found in the high altitude continental brine aquifers of South America. The largest mineral deposits (Hard rock) of lithium are found in Southern Australia, Central Africa and China. The Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia contains the most lithium but the country lacks the infrastructure to extract it, recently Japan has shown considerable interest in mining the lithium from Bolivia and even gone as far as forgiving Bolivia's foreign debt to secure their interests.
