meteorological parameters such as temperature, pressure and humidity play a key role when we study radon,. Different researchers work on soil radon as an earthquake precursor. During this type of study what are required correction for meteorological parameters and how we distinguish between the radon anomaly of earthquake and meteorological parameters.
Corrections are device dependent. The mechanisms of collection, detection, and measurement differ for devices. The best method of correction is to deploy the device at location intended for measurement and record its response over time and meteorological conditions. The expected earthquake anomaly must be well above the meteorological changes, i.e., the meteorological changes should be small compared to the expected anomaly measurement.
Thanks a lot for your valuable reply but how we correlate radon anomaly with crustal deformation, could you pleases elaborate the mechanism of radon transfer and it,s concentration change with seismic activity. One thing more i also want to know about the relation of depth of the event , epicenter distance from radon monitoring point and magnitude of the event.
The questions you asked have not been answered. Pressure or dilation could release the radon. The source of the radon is unknown. Water? Rock? Interstitial air?
Radon changes have been observed by generally one detector when there is seismic activity. A detector on one side of the epicenter may see a radon increase, while another on the other side does not. A dense array of radon detectors is necessary to develop a relationship for radon concentration changes to seismic activity.
The problem of too few detectors is a problem for all methods of seismic activity monitoring.
