I am a cyto. prep. tech and I am having a major issue with my Hologic Cellient blocks. When I remove the filters from the wax/sample button a lot of the sample is stuck to the filter. The sample that stays on the button is "chunky" and not in a nice clean single layer of cells. Our paraplast is close to its expiration date and I was wondering if that could be the problem? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

We also use the Cellient in our cytology lab. The answer i am about to give you is based on my experience of using the machine and i don't claim to be an expert! Two things i am thinking of...
your sample in the photo looks quite bloodstained, do you wash your cytology sample with cytolyt prior to making the cell block if it looks bloodstained?
Also i have found that if i get a lot of requests for cell blocks in one day, the machine may be used for long periods of time as it can only do one sample at a time. i have found that if i let the machine rest for at least 10 minutes, the pellet doesn't stick to the filter as much and is easier to remove. if i process one sample after another without letting the machine rest/cool down, the filter is difficult to remove and some of the pellet sticks inside it.
