Clicking the Mendeley browser plugin to save the reference.
Nothing happens.
The plugin is working on all other sites that I test, so this must be a deliberate act on the part of RG.
The same happens to me. But, I don't know if it is an issue from the RG side. A workaround works like this:
Enter to the Chrome settings page by going yo the three points in the upper-right corner of chrome. Then go to More tools->Extensions.
From there, search for your mendeley extension and activate incognito mode.
Enter incognito mode (ctrl+shift N) and go to the RG paper. It seems to work for me this way.

I tried the workaround without success. Still hoping RG and Mendeley get together to fix this issue!
The workaround works for me, I just did it again today. What does it show when you try to perform the workaround?
Given that it works in the incognito mode for me, it suggests that at least it is not a deliberate action by RG. Perhaps it is something related to chrome.
In Mozilla Firefox I did just now and it works perfectly. I work over GNU/linux, Firefox 60.0 with "browser.privatebrowsing.autostart" configuration option always as "TRUE", and the most recent version of Mendeley one-click web importer.
Mendeley is owned by Elsevier. That might be a relevant data point in attributing cause.
