I will be the first to admit that I'm a neophyte, when it comes to molecular sequencing. However, does there come a time when we have gone too far with it, or that the data is being misinterpreted?

I am currently studying some Indo-Pacific species within the Kermia–Pseudodaphnella complex, and find molecular sequencing being done in a few recent articles. In one situation, the data purportedly justified the separation of two species. However, from a visual observation the only noticeable difference would be that the axial lines of one species was black while the other was brown to dark brown. Before molecular sequencing, we would typically consider this difference as just a within species variation.

So I have ask, Are we going too far with molecular sequencing?
