Manuscript submission had been done mire than 6 monhs ago. The status of manuscript appears as under peer review.. its more than 5 months. Other journals are publishing the similar research. What sre possible consequences of withdrawing manuscript.?
What shall i ask editor to expedite review or offer some decision on the same..

I concur with Ramesh. You might wish to wait a little longer. However, if you're determined to withdraw your paper, then I'd suggest sending the primary editor a message simply stating that you're withdrawing your paper from any further consideration.

Five months is quite ok, even sometimes it may run over a year. Though you can, but I don't think it is advisable to withdraw a manuscript under peer review for five months. Even though you need not to ask you editor for the article status, as same can be checked from the journal portal.

Hi,
You could check the status of your paper in the journal's "article submission" link in the journal's site. In this site there should be a link for "e-mail" or "correspondence" with the editors of the journal. You could send them a note saying that you are waiting already five month for the reviewers' results, and ask what is the status of the paper now. It is suggested not to withdraw the paper , and do not try to expedite the process. The fact that you are inquiring about the status of your paper should be helpful at this stage.
If its a Springer or Wiley journal then the enquiry email goes to JEO (people who assign editors). You can ask them how many review is/are pending. For elseveir journal you can chat online with the customer care who can give you the paper review status. How many reviews are pending?
At this stage withdrawing of paper is not beneficial as you have to go through the same procedure again with another journal.

I do feel that you must try to get reply from Editor. You should try to know the actual status of the article. In abrupt situation only you may request for withdrawal.
