I'M working in the filed of production of emulsion polymers, while making polymerization reaction between styrene and butylacrylate monomers the temp. rapidly increased from 80 to 92 C°. and this is not normal (we were using ammonium persulphate as initiator and using dowfax 2A1, Emulsogen EPN 287, and Aerosol A102) as surfactants???.
Dear Muhammad Abd El-Haleem, I think this is a quiet normal exothermic behavior of a polyaddition polymerization. This is more favored when working with high reactivity monomers such as styrene. Also may be you used high charge loading of reactants which reduces heat dissipation and cooling down. I think better will be to work at low temperature (20°C) using a redox couple based on the persulfate. My Regards
