After establishing the symbiosis, fungal hyphae are able to spread from colonised roots into the surrounding soil and to develop a complex, ramifying network which can extend from 5 to 7.5 m per day (Giovannetti et al. 2001), reaching up to 30 m per gram of soil(Cavagnaro et al. 2005, Wilson et al. 2009). But the C content is, at my knowledge, not known.
Under sufficient nutrient levels, a host plant with low C, status transfer less C to the fungus,which diminishes fungal nutrient transfer to the plant and increases accumulation in fungal spores and hyphae (Hammer et al 2011) Other aspect to consider is Co2 level, when this is hight,(atmospheric Co2), increasing photosyntetic activity specially C3 plants-, so this fixed C is transferred in high level to mycorrhiza.
