I'm interested in the characteristics of a good peer review process.
Without mentioning any journals and without naming any individuals, what has your best peer review experience been?
This could perhaps relate to how the process overall was handled, how the decision was communicated at each stage, how clear and transparent it seemed, how quickly it unfolded, what reviewers' comments helped you do and so on.

As a peer-reviewer, I read the abstract of a particular research. The academic writing as well the rationalization were very poor. Thus, I send a message to the Editor to tell him how this bad manuscript passed from him and submitted to the reviewers. Since that time, I do not receive any manuscript from this journal for the evaluation.

Of course, I read your question and pretty much thought about how the answer to it should be designed. My experiences regarding your question are numerous and significantly different. Many mathematical journals are very correct. The process of evaluating a submitted text is within a reasonable time interval and communication with an editor is quality. Since the amount of my knowledge about the quality of communication with scientific journals is negligibly small compared to the number of magazines in the world, I do not dare to draw conclusions.
I will still express my one impression. I got the impression that the magazine 'Semigroup Forum' is extremely correct in terms of the quality of reviews.

The best process was with top international journals. The local one states that your paper may still not make it even when on the final revision! Which always seems a bit unpleasant

It is difficult for me to choose a single incidence/event - but I can highlight, collectively, the types of attributes that make for a more satisfying experience with journal manuscript submission and eventual acceptance. These being:
- Early acknowledgement of the manuscript - and a broad indication of the process to follow.
- Timely review process within the 'average' time if stated.
- Probably most important - constructive, comprehensive, and balanced feedback from reviewers - where there is general similarity between reviewers - and not wide variation i.e. rejection through to acceptance.
- Following acceptance, quick proof return from copy-editors etc - and timely inclusion as 'in press/online early' - meaning an early allocation of a doi number.

I am a new researcher so i can say that i have only had one bad experience with a journal indexed in a well known index. Well to begin with.. they asked me to transform the topic of my research into an awkward thing that is not related to content. Accordingly, i was informed to add some content regarding the new topic (I can not figure out why they asked for it). I believe that they wanted to modify my paper just to wait for other papers to put into their issue. However I had to publish my paper due to academic requirements and forced myself to be calm and do what they asked from me. I believe that those 2 referees and editor ruined my academic work.

The best experience I had was with one of the first papers I have published in my academic life. The reviewers offered really good recommendations without rejecting the paper, which gave me more confident to move forward with scientific publication, and I still remember and follow the recommendation they offered to improve the paper.
