Still, mono-functional POSS is widely used as epoxy reinforcement and I am wondering what is a reason for that?

POSS contain only one epoxide can provide long term dimensional stability at temperatures near the glass transition (less sensitive to physical aging). Physical aging in polymers will reduce the impact performance with time. Since many POSS ( as seen in the website of Hhybridplastics) can have 8 organic moieties surrounding the SO core, so for mono-epoxide POSS, you can select those POSS with non-reactive functional that enable mixing with the organic epoxy/amine combination to avoid agglomeration issue.
Using multifunctional POSS will increase the crosslink density of the epoxy matrix when compared to the monofunctional POSS. So selecting mono functional or multifunctional should depend on the property you look for.
To overcome the agglomeration issue using monofunctional POSS in epoxy system, select POSS structure with compatible functionalities like epoxy containing POSS which will react with the system rather than being a non- reactive additive.
