It seems that the control community is facing a deadlock for further development because of a lack of new groundbreaking theories. On the other side, nowadays there are many interests in multi-disciplinary projects in which control theories need to be applied. I wonder, what do you think about the future of control science and its orientation? Is it probable that the science world would discover new theories or it will continues contributing to multi-disciplinary projects or will it orient toward something else?
Note that my definition of "Control" is one of its classic description, i.e. "The objective of Control science is to bring the system output close to the desired value".
Depending how do you define "control". In a broad sense, it can be defined as an art of science seeking systemetical approaches to deal with systems with uncertainties to achieve desired performance. In this sense, the answer to your question is yes because there is a need for new theories to solve various open problems the world is facing.

Any step with "CONTROL" adds solely to simplification of life even after 'n' number of years.
Controls has two components to it. The Math side and the application of the Math. Unless the former leads, the later cannot follow. for quite some time we have been witnessing lateral growth in controls - that is a whole batch of different applications for the same core math. Some very interesting things are due to happen in our Math ability in the next few decades. As they fall in place, control theory and consequently control practice will take quantum leap forward and may even undergo a paradigm shift. I do believe the way we control itself is about to change.
What control realy is the ability to model a system and use input to influence an output. So as systems evolve, so will controls. It is not a subject that is mean to remain stagnant.
I know my answers are generic in nature, but it is a generic question!! So......
