I would like first to propose some different scenarios:
1. Clinical Laboratories are numbers suppliers (i.e. numeric results) whose use is only in the availability of clinicians. In this case, the responsibility of Professionals of Laboratory is in providing accurate and precise results exclusively. In this scenario, the Clinicians Orient or decide the different tests that the laboratory must provide.
2. Clinical Laboratories collaborate with Clinicians in the use of results and help them in the clinical-diagnostic process, particularly by providing interpretative comments in “specialistic topics” such as haematology, serology, microbiology and others. In this scenario, the Laboratory Professionals collaborate with Clinicians in the choice of the diagnostic panel-test.
3. Clinical Laboratories work in complete professional autonomy. Its exclusive competences are the choices of tests, their updating as well as the ability to comment adequately the resulting and, when possible, proposing diagnostic hypotheses
4. Clinical Laboratories work with a mix of the above features. Which one?
It would be interesting if all Colleagues declare their status as Clinicians or Laboratory Professionals when they answer
