I understand that it is possible to estimate the capacity of a certain soil using the freundlich and Langmuir models. I am sure that running this models is quite an acquarate approach to determine P fixation.
I decided to ask this question, because I feel that for farmers it is a very complex approach. Therefore I was wondering if there is a different process to follow that would be more in-practice oriented situations?

Phosphorus in soils occurs almost exclusively in the form of orthophosphate with total P concntrations usually in the range of 500-800 mg/kg dry soil. Monitor soil test P levels over time and adjust the P:N fertilizer ratios to keep your soil between 25 and 50 ppm. No P is required when soil test P levels are above 50 ppm, but P may slowly decline over time due to plant uptake and soil fixation.

I am on the pro side of that discussion. However, I have some serious observations about the process. First, I recommend making at least 9 different spike concentrations per soil, with some replicated. Second, there is a problem with selectively measuring PO4 concentrations at the low levels relevant to plant uptake and environmental risk. (I have ideas about this that you might test.) Third, you should use the Freundlich model for fitting. (I expect this recommendation to attract howls of protest.) Fourth, the fitting must accommodate the effect of existing sorbed P on new sorption.
