Which is superior, enjoyment of art for its own forms or fruition which produces deep emotions like sadness or gladness? Why? My wife reads, looks at paintings, goes to classical concerts to feel empathy with the artist or his characters. I read, contemplate paintings or go to hear the forms of the artworks and to note how the author or the orchestra renders them. We both have the same amount of education. Which one of us is better at enjoying art? How do you enjoy art, with contemplation or with participation?
