Hi everyone I am simulating a waveguide setup to measure return loss of a Split Ring Resonator. I have to use TE01 mode for excitation The figure of the design is attached
I am implementing folowing BC
X-axis conducting wall
Y-axis conducting wall
Z-axis magnetic (Ht=0)
I am wondering that if am using correct boundary conditions for the waveguide setup having TE01 mode for excitation .
Either the plane normal to the x or the y axis needs to be a magnetic wall, and the other needs to be an electric wall. The electric field will be parallel to the magnetic wall and perpendicular to the electric wall, so if the electric field along the centre of the waveguide is along the y-axis then you need the plane perpendicular to the x-axis to be a magnetic wall.
Not sure about the third plane - I wouldn't bother, but it might work and save you time. If so it needs to be a magnetic wall, because it is parallel to the electric field.
Does your split-ring resonator have the right symmetry to use these? Is it mirrored left-right and up-down? (and front-back?)

my SRR array is 2x8 and elements are mirrored.
Do excitation mode also effected by symmetry ?
The excitation mode will fill the guide. Look at the port mode plot, which is one of the first outputs available after the run starts (and before it finishes). The excitation mode has to have the symmetry defined by the symmetry planes (or to put it the other way, the planes have to be the right ones so that they agree with the field pattern(s) of the mode(s) you use).
