You calculate your strategy with the Queen Data collection strategy module in APEX2 or 3. When you click determine strategy make sure the shutterless mode is checked. Then determine your strategy as usual. Your frames in shutterless mode can be no shorter than 1 second. After you decide your frame width and time/per exposure in the Select Scan Parameters section, you will go to the Experiment tab. You will first input the correct wavelength if necessary and then the first run you should include will be a fast scan. You will need to scale the fast scan time to longer if you have to collect long exposures. Then you append your strategy, make sure you choose shutterless exposures at the top, validate and run your experiment.
The fast scan is necessary in shutterless mode because the program will throw out any reflections that top the detector. The fast scan usually has all the strong reflection collected at a shorter exposure and the scaling module will replace the reflections that were thrown out of the normal dataset with scaled reflections from the fast scan data. Also the structure can usually be solved from the fast scan data alone allowing you to decide if you want to continue with your experiment.
