I think the changes happening because of COVID-19 are supporting the need for artificial intelligence. For example testing large samples, or entering data of results etc.
I think after situation returns hopefully back to normal, the lesson learnt from the pandemic will be that nature has many more tricks up its sleeves that we can possibly fathom, but data collected during the pandemic if properly analyzed and effectively mined using machine learning/Al tools, it can reveal useful information and lead to insights to be better prepared for such pandemic in near or distant future.
The data and information are always transformed and applied using Network and media and other electronic features, thefore i think there is no danger from COVID 19 on data related jobs and researches. Regards
"Between February and March 2020, job titles that include the term ‘artificial intelligence’ (AI) are on track to increase by 11%” at a time when job postings in most occupations are falling. 285 AI-related companies in the U.S. raised $6.9 billion in the first quarter of 2020 and the number of AI jobs worldwide could increase by 16% in 2020, reaching a total of 969,000 (sources: WSJ, and Forbes)."
It depends on which side those jobs stand in relation to operation or innovation. In my view, those jobs in innovation are favored a lot by COVID-19 and the ones on operation are disfavored as there isn't much transaction going on.
There will be temporary slowdown but in a period of 2 years, there will be a bigger demand of Data Science professionals due to increased generation of data and hence need for more processing
