For the economies of developing countries especially, it can prove beneficial. Since distance learning would lead to saving various national resources (e.g. energy resources, etc). However, It would definately negative impacts on the economy. Such as the small businesses(e.g.food stalls, stationery shops, pick and drop services etc) linked with the physical presence of students at campuses/schools/colleges. Importantly, classroom learning cannot be accomplished through online sources.
Yes, in my opinion, changing formal education system to innovative ecosystem could bring a positive change to the economy. An interesting solution could be the improvement of didactic processes through ICT, Internet and Industry 4.0 information technologies in such a way that positive changes in the economy are conditioned, among others, by implementing sustainable development implemented in accordance with the concept of circural economy, green economy, etc.
If you looking at methodology to carry out the research, then it would depend on your sample size or population. however, gauging from the title, i think a mixed method would suit the study. A large quantitative supported by a smaller qualitative (again, all dependent on the type of respondents). if you looking at measuring impact study, then go with impact related statistics as well, eg. Regression or SEM (there are more).
