A product can makes with the help of two different raw materials (A or B separately, only one type of raw material I can use at a time) and require three types of heat treatment on the product to get the final outcome of the product. The heat treatments are categorized as High, Medium and Low (H, M and L). The outcomes of the final product are categorized as X, Y and Z.
So, in brief the outcome products are dependent on raw materials and heat treatment.
As an example my proposition is: product X is the outcome of the combination of A and H.
What type of statistical test I can use to verify my above proposition? Please help me.
You must be used Design Expert software for design of your experiment. This will help you to know which parameter is effect your output response significantly. On the basis of that you perform your experiment and find the best output response of your product.
Start off by using a 3 Factorial Design where you have 2 variables (composition and heat treatment) at a number of levels (3 for the heat treatment and maybe 3 for the compositions, 100% A, 100% B, and 50% A and B). Run the trial experiments and check the outcomes. There are a number of statistical software tools available to analyze the optimal combination of A and B and the Heat Treatment. A very common software is MINITAB which can help you map out the optimal process space. You will have to run a number of experiments (3 to the power 2 equaling 9) initially to get the data.
You can use linear regression assuming your outcome is continuous and the 2 variables as predictors.
You may be able to do this in Excel if you don't have a statistical package
Hi, it depends on the question you're asking. Do you want to compare the raw materials i.e. does heat has a differential effect depending on the type of raw material? or do you want to compare the various level of heat and see whether it is independent of the raw materal? the choice of question will help you to define the type of analysis you require
