what type of light weight aggregate is suitable to be used with foamed concrete in order to produce light weight aggregate foamed concrete? another thing, is it possible to use polystyrene beeds?
thank you E. Kamse , but do have any information on how to overcome the high porosity of the aggregate in such manner that it will not affect the w/c ratio of the foam concrete through the absorption of the water in the mix
i am seeking for structural light aggregate foamed concrete, inclusion of light weight aggregate with suitable type will definitely raise the compressive strength of the concrete
Ligtwight means low density and foam will also include larger capillary pores. The compressive strength of those type of matrices is limited.
You can however do some optimization of the strength with the binder used. In the way to enhance the interface aggregate-binder. There is a work of P. Krivenko (2014) where you can find solution to overcome the porosity. His work was focused on the durability but you will see that the model proposed can be efficient also for you.
You can use perlite, pumic aggregates, foamed glass aggregates and foamed clay
Expanded polystyrene is an option, though you sacrifice mechanical properties depending on the application they would not be your proridad, however if the low density of the compound or specific resistance.
Try some fine mineral material like fly ash, silica fume etc. These can help to enhance the quality of these aggregates and reduce the porosity.
