The development of CSR in Mexico has started only a few years ago, a lack of transparency, access to companies' information (Idowu & Filho 2009) and consumer organization exists. Meanwhile, Mexican companies have created different organizations in the following areas: environment, education, and health (Idowu & Filho 2009).
Therefore, by adopting Gond's 5 types of CSR description and the current state of CSR in Mexico, the first 3 tpes of CSR maybe suitable to be explore in Mexico.
Thank you very much for your insights on this – it does help since I was thinking of Mexico's case matching 'CSR as self-government' and/or 'CSR as a partnership'. Therefore, your opinion on this question do match with the options I had identifed (1 and 3).
Thank you again, I shall move on with my work now.
CSR as self-government\ CSR as facilitated by government\ CSR as a partnership with government/ CSR as mandated by government\ CSR as a form of government by government
and as tifou said the first 3 types are suitable to explore in mexico. But sadly, many Mexican corporations are much more comfortable paying lip service to CSR than to actually implementing in real life.
@ Ahmad Mazeh : it seems Mexico has still a long way to go – with a CSR approach mostly influenced by outside (international) companies which, in order to prevent bad publicity with their shareholders and stakeholders back in the home country, do implement CSR in their business practices. Nonetheless, it appears there is a real philanthropy with Mexican business owners .. I have come across a very comprehensive and in-depth work from a thesis posted online : https://ore.exeter.ac.uk/repository/bitstream/handle/10871/32737/PetridesY.pdf?sequence=1 (pages 183-onwards)
which shows the current literature level of knowledge about Mexico ito CSR, from different authors. Very interesting !
@ Monica Stevens : Thank you Monica for sharing this information – it could be a real saving in time and efforts to get some answers from someone directly who deals with CSR in Mexico, and avoid some extra literature which is pretty time consuming too..! Thanks
