i would like to suggest case study method must be used for your current research study .............because this issues has different dynamics..........and inter linked factors.... in the context of Participatory communication and community development is concerned.
as per my experiences in indian context post British colonial regime. The development communication approach builds participatory mechanisms and functional networks involving NGOs, CBOs, and Traditional Leadership structures. and basically it depends on the important elements
sustainability and continuity - participatory communication or developmental communication is not just giving information but it is drawing more linkages within community keeping community development is main motto. that need to check . if there is no linkages and sustainability and continuity there is no development communication approach .............during study you need to look into this factor
you also need to check out dialogue mechanisms about the information which was transferred and participatory mechanisms and functional networks along with this you need to check out level community participation involves . might you need to work on larger universe and different sample unites like participatory mechanisms and functional networks involving NGOs, CBOs, and Traditional Leadership structures, individuals etc.
Your choice of theory /model will depend on what you are interested in DevCom. However, you can look at the participatory model, modernisation paradigm, ACADA model, Panoptic view/discourse approach and dependency theory. Any of these can be applied as a framework depending on your design and objective.
