I teach a first semester design course in Psychology covering a mix of philosophy of science, experiments, surveys, quasi-experiments, and touching briefly on qualitative designs. There are also some statistics and measurement pieces included from an "end user" perspective as tie-ins to other courses in the program. Much of my syllabus is currently article based, and I would like to shift some of that load over to a text book. Does anyone have one they like?

I taught the introductory course in health services research for a number of years. Though it is a different field, I would suggest you look closely at Shadish, Cook, and Campbell., Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Designs for Causal Inference. I find Campbell's approach to validity a very good way of helping students in any field organize thier thinking about research issues. The concepts of the various potential sources of invalidity and dealing with plausible alternative hypotheses worked very well.

I have found that my students in graduate level research methods like Creswell's (2014) research methods in education textbook. In addition, I've heard very good things about using Salkind's book and the Sage Handbook as mentioned above.
