Hi, performance can be subdivided in inputs and outputs, and each can be subdivided in tangibles and intangibles. tangible inputs are for example hours worked, intangible inputs could be the mood that I bring to work or my team orientation or client orientation. Tangible outputs could be improved team work atmosphere, or the quality of client relationships. You should realise that the measurement of tangibles is not as objective as it seems at first sight. Do I count pauses as part of work hours? This makes it less precise as often believed. You can make the intangibles measurealble by defining for each objective what the measurable outcome would be for poor, average or outstanding performance. Take client relationship: poor performance would lead to loss of trust. This could become visible a smaller (to be specified) number of phone calls to discuss business, and maybe a higher number of complaints. It is up to you to take the appropriate measures, for the specific situation. Improved relationships could lead to more sales, more transitions, more phone calls, less complaint, and you could put numbers on all of those. You are not obliged to manage by colours. You can just use motivation, communication and leadership to influence the intangible performance.
