I'm an occupational therapist, so speaking from that perspective: often children with ASD need OT services collaboratively with their classroom teacher.  Each individual will have varied needs, but commonly sensory integration techniques are used for calming.  Social stories are emerging in the literature as being helpful with disruptive classroom behaviors as well.  Speech therapy will address communication deficits as needed.  Continued support and advocacy for parents is important as many do not know the rights of their child, and consequently may not be able to fully fight for their child's rights. 

There are 27 evidence-based practices (EBPs) identified in a report by National Professional Development Centre for autsim in USA. They include most of the above mentioned strategies. Structured teaching is a programme that uses the EBPs as needed by the individual. The most important thing is to know your student- their strengths and areas of need, their triggers and stabilisation methods. It is important to use simple and clear instructions during teaching/learning and keep idiomatic speech or social language separate.Again, it depends on individual student and their expressive/receptive language skills. Typically, if a teacher is using systematic instruction in the classroom, they will have data-driven practice which provides assessment of learning and for earning.
