I would like to know what strategic management models are recommended for teaching strategic management in Msc and PhD classes among existing models and textbooks and why?
I think that Strategic Management Models that used for Educational Purposes must be different from applicable purposes. For teaching Strategic Process including planning, Implementation and evaluation, perhaps Brayson’s Model is suitable, Although this model is useful in real case.
In Iranian Universities the most frequent model that used for teaching is F.R David’s Model because of simplicity of this model that not very good for implementation in real cases.
for have a better knowledge about type of model, I suggested that student encourage in your class to read “Strategy Safari: A Guided Tour through the Wilds of Strategic Management” Book by H. Mintzberg J. Lampel B. Ahlstrand. Also for have better understanding about implementation and evaluation phase, reading of Balanced Scored Cards (BSC) Concept and study of the books that write by Kaplan and Norton are necessary.

I think Porter model, RBV (Resource Based view), Core competencies model, and Dynamic capabilities model are suitable to be taught in MSc and PhD classes
In both we need to determine the Vision and the Mission of the plan.
In the first part a curriculum-centred strategic planning model can be applied as it will be with a learner-centred framework.
For the second the linear David's strategic plan can be applied as it is in the same time comprehensive, analytical and simple. Bryson's, it is slightly more complicated although does the job too.
To teach in MSc and PhD classes, you should consider different school of thought in strategic planning and management. Strategic planning approaches for profit or non-profit organizations is different in strategy formulation processes and tools. For example, consider Brayson's model for non-profit and David's model for profit organizations. Furthermore, you should consider Descriptive vs. Prescriptive models of strategy formulation in organizations.
Finally, you can also focus on what "Mahmoud Zouaoui" offered: "I think Porter model, RBV (Resource Based view), Core competencies model, and Dynamic capabilities model are suitable to be taught in MSc and PhD classes."
I teach a module on strategic management at Ph.D level. No text book is followed. Seminal and latest research articles are prescribed for candidates to study and cfome prepared in the class for discussion on the article. The discussion centers around the idea, the purpose, appropriateness of research design and methodology, discussion, results, limitation and recommendation for future study. In each batch some new research articles are added while some older one are discarded from the reading/discussion material.
