What Statistical test would be suitable (HELP!!!)?

Hi,

I am currently doing a quantitative study (between-subjects design) to measure the degree to which alexithymia, emotional expressivity, mindfulness and coping strategies predict emotional eating, where emotional eating is the outcome variable and the rest are the predictor variables. The target population the study is done on is university students and black Asian or ethnic minority individuals (BAME).

I need help as i dont know what SPSS analysis to conduct, the measures i am using are:

Toronto Alexithymia Scale; (c) Emotional Eating Scale; (d) the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale; (e) Berkeley Expressivity Scale; and (f) the Brief Cope Scale. All of these are likert scales.

what SPSS statistical test would be suitable to conduct in order to find out the relationship of the predictor variables on the outcome variable. is it multiple regression, multiple linear regression, logistic regression, are all of these considered continuous data if yes would the tests change, what is factorial analysis and is is releveant in this analysis??? please could you help i would be ever so greatful.

Hh Hh , it depends on how is your outcome variable being measured:

* If it is continuous: multiple linear regression

* If it is discrete (Categorical) with two categories (binary): logistic regression

* If it is discrete with more than 2 categories, and there is an implicit order in the categories (as e.g. in a Likert scale), then ordinal regression

* If it is discrete with more than 2 categories, without an order, multinomial regression

* If it is a count variable, a Poisson, etc

...

Depending on the nature of your data you will also have to adapt any of those techniques, e.g. with a longitudinal design

Hh Hh , it seems to me that you only have Likert scales, therefore you can run a simple linear regression with all of your predictors (Toronto Alexithymia Scale; the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale; Berkeley Expressivity Scale; and the Brief Cope Scale) and the Emotional Eating Scale as the dependent variable.

There's one thing left I don't get. You said that you're doing a between-subjects design...well, what's your between factor? In other words, what are your groups?
