The world is changing rapidly in many ways, including socioeconomically and technologically. Therefore, current students have to acquire new competence to survive and compete in the future. What new mindset and skill set should they acquire and what existing work values should be preserved?
It is sometimes said that "it is not the fittest that survives rather it is the one who adapts to the changes most quickly". The future workplace is becoming more and more unpredictable in many ways and I think the students who are preparing today for the world of tomorrow need to work more on enhancing their adaptability and I think this can only be possible if the today's students are prepared with more focus on generic is compared with specific (specialized) concepts and have good comprehension of the fundamentals.
Continuing education and life-long learning would certainly remain key to success in the future.
In order to be prepared for the challenges of tomorrow, students should - in addition to excellence in their respective field(s) of study - acquire a set of general skills, capabilities and mindsets:

Be constantly aware of progress in research and changes in the work environment, be ready to change and committed to keep pace. Never miss an opportunity to learn (after studies during career) from peers, leaders and best practices.

Be aware of team strength versus individual strength, be ready to get the maximum out of team work by becoming a role model in applying social competence to work. Develop excellent communication and presentation skills, as well as inter-cultural competence.
- Be able to solve problems.
Become proficient in applying problem solving techniques, develop analytic and conceptual skills. Stay open-minded and be ready to think out of the box.
- Be capable of managing projects and using technology effectively and efficiently.
Make use of existing technology including information technology and social media where appropriate. Give new impetus to research and development of future innovation.
