In my scientific opinion, the identification of species enhances our understanding of ecosystems by revealing unique ecological roles and potential endemic species. However, this process is slow and does not address immediate threats such as deforestation or climate change. Conversely, conservation actions—such as habitat protection, restoration, and environmental policies—act directly on current pressures, safeguarding both known species and those yet to be discovered. It is valuable to consider other perspectives.
