To the previous answer I would also add that a geographer should probably have a perspective which adds to the physical aspects also the socio-economic items. I am a physical scientist working in remote sensing, but I collaborate with geographers and I personally find it very useful their links with local agencies and regional needs. Moreover, and always speaking from my own corner, I am very grateful to geographers for their very practical, down-to-earth if you like, approach to physical data either from the ground or from space-based remote sensing. In my personal view, the geographer is the necessary link between Earth sciences and the needs of the territory, which he/she knows very well from either a physical or socio-economic points of view.
OK, this is as much as I can write from my own experience.
I think that an area where Geography and Environment get deeply involved is Land Management. Urban and industrial planning and development implies quality criteria and this lead to environmental politics.
Thank you Vincenzo Levizzani. I am happy to know your experience. I recognize your appreciation on behalf of the Geographer's community.
Thank you Iñigo Legórburu for your answer.
Thank you Dalia for your interest. I have put this question in general sense. I want to share experiences from experts of different corners and thus I will try to analyse the actual role of Geographers in environmental studies.
