I am mapping ant nest locations both locally (in populations) and in regions. I plan to do mapping and metapopulation analysis. Will use ERSI ArcGIS and perhaps Ramas programs. The ant nests are sometimes within 5 m of one another.
Also am on a budget or rather am applying for a small grant to cover the cost.
Garmin was recommended but which one?
Hello Ann; ! Another ant chaser! I am also an ant enthusiast. I use Garmin eTrex10. When setting traps the positions are recorded to 5 digits. I repeatably get the same values for particular traps. I certainly can distinguish between traps that are 5 m apart. ... and that device costs less than $100.

The Trimble has types of sub-metre accuracy level GPS such as the Trimble TDC150 Handheld GPS.
