How the quality of distilled water vary with boiler type (for e.g. quartz/ borosilicate glass, silica or metallic heater)? What are the advantages expected by using quartz boiler and condenser? Why the quality of water is high in all quartz distillation?
Dear Mahesh: With the increase in content of heavy metals increases density of glass. Quartz glass has a density of - 2 to 2.1 g / cm3, the borosilicate glass has a density of 2.23 g / cm3. Quartz coefficient of linear thermal expansion less than 1 × 10-6 K-1.
The quality of water in case of any borosilicate(+other metal oxide additives) is lower
because the extent of crystallinity (if any) is very low - thus - such a glass is slowly decomposing by LEACHING; while quartz-glass - retains its resistance to water.
