FYI have a resonable understanding of non-stationary noise characterisation and beamforming approaches.

I have an impression that you have asked several questions here.
It seems that it is unclear if you are asking to shortlist the problems for the following topics:
1) if the multichannel is the problem per se
2) if the reduction of the wind noise is the target as a problem
3) if the application is for speech applications
4) if the application is for industrial applications
5) if the application is for sound localisation.
If you narrow the search for the problem and ask more specific and targeted question, it will be easier to answer and it may be more beneficial to your future research. If you are unsure you may need to create a small table and place the questions and answers against them and see how it goes.
You can do an initial search in Google Scholar/Patents for these reasons.
Usually, each original research paper contains a brief (or, a more extensive) literature review. Patents often address problems of a more practical view, so patent applications and granted patents would also contain some answers to your query. Besides the Google patents, you can use The lens and AusPat search engines.
Of course, if you are researcher and you are trig to find the answer to the question(s), the pleasure of finding the answers is entirely yours, because you are the one that is going to select what constitutes a problem and if the problem has any significance for your future research.
If you have a mentor or a supervisor, it would be also a good idea to ask the mentor/supervisor and to have a chat on the topic.

Your right I did ask several questions.
Let me try and re clarify a single questions I have for someone with experience in outdoor acoustics testing. How influential is the effect of atmospheric turbulence present on compact microphone used for acoustic mapping an outdoor source ie Wind turbine in the low frequency range. Besides limited spatial aperture of a array is correlated turbulence a primary limiting factor in the beam former separating two closely spaced acoustic sources.
