If you need to measure aggregation with secretion - Chronolog is the only one that does both (in whole blood as well). It can also do smaller volumes - for mouse samples. However, whole blood aggregation in aggregometer can only be measured by impedance and it depends on many non-platelet parameters, such hematocrit, plasma proteins, etc.

Alternatively, you could use any aggregometer and measure secretion by flow cytometry - then you only need very small sample volumes. You could also assess aggregation by flow cytometry in fact. Hope this was helpful.

Chronolog is the best choice - it allows to measure aggregation and secretion in sample volume of 0.5 ml (PRP) or whoole blood (diluted 1:1 with 0.9 % NaCl). Chronolog measures platelet function on patient samples using electrical impedance in whole blood or optical density in plasma with simultaneously measuring ATP release by the luminescence method.

LTA is the gold standard method. Whole blood aggregometers can not measure a variety of parameters -secondary aggregation, disaggregation as examples, and the whole blood has to be diluted prior to testing. Hayward et al reported that simultaneous ATP determinations will affect other platelet aggregation results and will miss at least one hereditable disorder.

There are multiple methods for testing animal blood by LTA, ranging from mice to primates.
