We are working with cereals: barley and wheat, and now the growth parameters which we measure.

We measure in diseased plants the infestation, other damages, green leaf area as well as age-related yellowing, the latter also in the healthy and untreated plants. Because we are interested in the impacts on yield forming process we harvest the plants at several times during the growth period and devide into the organ fractions ears, kernels, residual parts of the ear, flag leaves, 2nd and 3rd leaves from above, residual leaves, upper culm (above the 3rd nodium), lower culm (below 3rd nodium), total culm and roots. We determine dry matter, total nitrogen and nitrogen-15 content of soluble sugars (anthrone method) and starch (enzymatic preparation and anthrone method) in all these organ fractions. Besides this, we determine the yield and its morphological components: number of ears/area, number of kernel/ear and the grain weight weekly starting after flowering until harvest at ripeness.
