The state Department of Agriculture Development and Farmers Welfare and Biotechnology, Chhattisgarh is implementing the World Bank-assisted Chhattisgarh Inclusive Rural & Accelerated Agriculture Growth (CHIRAAG) project. The project's main objective is to enhance the income opportunities and availability of nutritious food in the targeted households of the tribal-dominated areas in Chhattisgarh. This project is being implemented in 14 blocks of 8 districts.
The project area mainly consists tribal population whose source of livelihood is agriculture. Poverty and malnutrition are the major problems of these people. They have small and fragmented land holdings with limited resources. This project focuses on integrating farming systems i.e.field crops, horticultural crops, livestock (cattle, goats, pigs, poultry and fisheries, etc.) to enhance the income and availability of nutritious food for them. Based on the availability of resources, Integrated Farming System (IFS) Models will be implemented in these areas.
