The advent of printing press was probably the first wholesome and (to date) the last invention that truly revolutionized the information transmission and archiving. It also had shaped the core teaching/learning systems with book(s) as the nucleus. Since then inventions like radio, TV, computer and Internet have created a lot of optimism but, till date, no revolutionary achievements seem to have been made

Technology can facilitate us in imparting knowledge to a large class (an example). Mobile internet can provide our students a great amount of knowledge, this is radical. But I think nothing can replace the teacher who explains and inspires.

The new technologies that will have a direct impact on the way we teach/learn are the Web 2.0 Technologies.
As endorsed by Gaffar, Singh and Thomas (2011, p. 129), “Web 2.0 technologies have gained increased popularity over the last decade. They have transformed user management on the World Wide Web and have made inroads in Education”. In educational contexts, stakeholders are beginning to realise the necessity of incorporating Web 2.0 technologies into the didactic process to ensure students of a more emancipatory approach to learning (Carlson, 2005; Oblinger & Oblinger, 2005; Anderson, 2007). Further, proponents of this new technology affirm that “[…] the central principle behind Web 2.0 is its power to harness and disseminate collective intelligence through networking, user engagement and blogging” (O’Reilly 2006c, p. 1).
These authors all point out that the difference with Web 2.0 is its ability to allow for meaningful interaction and communication with its users where they are allowed to be active participants in learning, rather than passive learners, as in the case of Web 1.0. Such a situation does present promise for educational institutions, teaching faculties and students all across the world.
In terms of these Web 2.0 tools, OEDb Staff Writers (2003) present 101 Web 2.0 teaching tools that will significant affect the learning-teaching process.

Kerwin A. Livingstone thanks for such an elaborate and insightful response. Web 2.0 certainly hold a great promise for highly interactive online learning experience and sharing of knowledge. However, to me it seems like Web 2.0 is a kind of enhancer or something that expands the existing teaching/learning environment. It is primarily simulating the existing teaching/learning tools, techniques and environment and can very well be called a big evolutionary step but does it really qualify to be called a "radical shift" is a bit doubtful.
