In writing a Thesis, it is usually required that we write assumptions of the study. This has caused a lot of controversy among scholars with different views held. This gave rise to my question, because i currently working on a project which requires that i state the assumptions. Any contribution will be appreciated, and several comments are anticipated to gather a pool of ideas,

Thanks so much for all your wonderful contributions. However, in my Faculty format for presenting research output, it is a requirement to state the assumptions of your study. Which is the reason i sought for help.
Try to avoid this term and making assumptions because in my experience examiners will ask why you didn't investigate further
Owen - I've not come across this before. Why would assumptions be asked for if actual findings are available - such as with a submitted thesis. I'm wondering if you mean that a funding body, or the like, is asking you for assumptions (potential outcomes) of your project before you commence it? If that is the case - then the assumptions would need to be balanced, objective, realistic, achievable, and directly related to the topic at hand.
What must one consider when writing "Assumptions of the Study"?
An empirical thesis / article shouldn't have any assumption but can have hypotheses & limitations. Because assumption will weaken the value of your thesis / article for knowledge contribution. Whenever you think of an assumption, try to conduct further literature review to justify your stance or through your research empirical findings to debunk / disprove any assumption.
Same idea, at workplace - customer or management usually don't like or don't want us to make too many assumptions but rather take extra mile to find out the naked truth or do something to remove the assumption. E.g. a Scope of Work (SoW) in contract means nothing if the assumption lists longer than the SoW.

Assumptions always reflects week side of the work or contributions, its better to have limitations to the actual finding .......................

An assumption is something that you assume to be the case, even without proof. Assumptions put limitations on conclusions. Assumptions are unavoidable to solve complex problems. It should be reasonable to accept.
