I want to design a overhead water tank mainly for firefighting purpose. The water source will be storm water (rain water harvest). while designing the water storage tank what methods and equations would be suitable and what parameters of the building to be considered in order to get the optimum quantity of backup water for fire flow.
I think your questions is about two points:-
1. How to estimate the water need to provide firefighting quantity from storm water runoff. (To answer this go to any urban water harvesting project and papers on google) and
2. How to design the firefighting system to deliver the require flow and pressure. (to answer this follow the firefighting code in your region or search for firefighting requirements in terms of flow rates and pressures.

yeah, Al-Weshan you are right but is there any relationship between calorific value of the fuel material used in the construction of building and the amount of water required to suppress that quantity of calorific value produced. It would be nice if you suggest me some related papers on this.
