We use a magneto-optical Kerr microscope to study the magnetic domains of a Co-Pt sample (polar magnetization). We detect the intensity change and assume the magnetization of the sample to be proportional to the avarage grey value of the images. We obtain hysteresis loops which are somehow rotated to what you would expect (see attached image). What may be the reason for this rotation? Is it an artifact of the measurement technique or is there physics behind it?
