I would like to drive a modal testing system using a signal generator. My B&K system consists of a shaker Type-4826, a power amplifier Type-2721 and a DC centering unit Type-1056.
The best waveform of the input signal is the sine wave since all other waveforms are complex and are composed of many harmonics. The most suitable amplitude is that keeps the distortion in the amplifier to minimum and prevent the clipping of the waveform where the amplifier works in its linear range. These levels can be obtained from the data sheet of the amplifier. Prasanna calculated the maximum input signals according the data sheet. So, you have to limit the input voltage below 2.4 Vrns otherwise your excitation will not be pure sine wave but a distorted and clipped sine wave.
Basically for such problems you must refer to the data sheet and for the required waveform for excitation.
Other waveform can be used for excitation, but you must determine what are the consequences of using such waveforms.
