I'm currently an undergrad at NYU doing Childhood/Special Education, but taking some grad level TESOL courses, so what I know is based off those classmates. It's more complicated with the TESOL programs at NYU because there are different tracks, with some adding teacher certification in TESOL or doing a dual in TESOL and Foreign Language teaching. I'd say there's at most 100 in all those programs combined. My understanding is that all of the one-year students aren't getting certified in anything, meaning they do observations but no practical teaching work. I'd say the majority of all the students (regardless of track) are currently Chinese citizens looking to return to China to join the growing ranks of English teachers there. About two thirds of those students are one-year non-certification, and none of the American students are non-certification. The non-certification participants get basic methods courses, but mostly study linguistics. The certification tracks add in more detailed teaching strategies. Interestingly though, for NYU teaching undergrads of any kind, they'll allow you to do the MA in one year through double-counting of some courses.
